FRANCES ALENIKOFF - Dancer

Remembering Frances Alenikoff on the occasion of the celebration of her  life.

Frances Alenikoff was a trailblazing dancer and choreographer who created her own unique style and form of contemporary dance.  Frances' creative curiosity led her beyond dance and movement.  She employed her sensibility as a visual artist in arranging her choreography, and used multi-media in her performance early on, during the late 1960's, 70's, and 80's. Her influence was wide spread.

This video is just a very brief sampling of a scant few of her performance.

Shawn Walker

A lifelong Harlem, NY resident, Shawn Walker has more than 50 years of professional photographic experience: first as a documentarian, working in analog and film, and more recently a fine-arts photographer, working in digital and video. He has more than 40 years as an adjunct professor and has taught in various other venues.  Shawn is currently teaching for the United Federation of Teachers (UFT).

A founding member of Kamoinge, the longest existing black photographic organization in the US, he has exhibited and been collected internationally.

The photographs:

"Painting With Light: Walls, Sidewalks and Streets," is Shawn's newest portfolio. Being new to digital photography, this is the first series that he has digitally manipulated. These are all "found images". They are not digitally created or re-organized -- only enhanced.

REGINALD GAMMON 1921 - 2005

Mr. Gammon said, “My work is abo
ut the human condition, using the figure as metaphor to illuminate the varied aspects of man’s activities and many faces of the participants.

I have particularly chosen to paint black people for reasons that are both personal and historical, since their representation has either been ignored or maligned for the general public’s
entertainment. A number of us Black artists are trying to set the record straight. Besides the fact that the art of African Americans generally dominates the American scene and have been long accepted by the international word by its vivacity and universal appeal.”
